Red brick pavers in a patio installation.

If you are conceiving a hardscape project at the moment, you’re probably browsing for the best material, design, color, and size for your pavers. In fact, the ideal course of action is to go through every possible option available near you before making a decision – and a professional team will always be a huge help in that matter. If you don’t wish to contact a provider right away, though, this article can give you a brief idea on the standard paver size chart in the industry.

Keep reading the article to, hopefully, find out the paver size that fits your planning the most! Also, we recommend you take a look at our guide on how to calculate square feet for pavers, since it has a lot to do with these initial measurements.

Paver size chart

First and foremost, a paver stone is a geometrical shape measured in three dimensions: length, width, and height (thickness). The latter does not really affect its size – only its durability in certain situations, as you can see in the picture below. For high-traffic areas, for instance, a thicker paver stone can withstand more weight than thinner surfaces and so on.

Belgard chart

Usually, small pavers are 0.2 square feet per unit, medium ones are 1 square foot per unit and large pavers are usually 1.7 square feet per unit.

That said, the material chosen matters a lot – brick, concrete, porcelain, all of them share similar, yet different proportions in their fabrication process, as you’ll see in a bit. Before that, however, here are the most common paver sizes for urban hardscape:

  • Patios and pools

200 x 200 x 50 mm (7.8 x 7.8 x 1.9 in)

300 x 300 x 40 mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 1.5 in)

600 x 300 x 60 mm (23.6 x 11.8 x 2.3 in)

  • Driveways and pathways

200 x 200 x 50 mm (7.8 x 7.8 x 1.9 in)

300 x 300 x 60 mm (11.8 x 11.8 x 2.3 in)

232 x 153 x 60 mm (9.1 x 6 x 2.3 in)

228 x 112 x 70 mm (8.9 x 4.4 x 2.7 in)

  • Roads

How do I know how many pavers I need?

As you can see, paver sizes are directly tied to the amount of units your worksite will require to be completed. Again, even though it’s preferable to consult a professional for these delicate steps (you don’t want to waste your budget), there is a quick way to determine how many pavers you need. This can be done with an online calculator, which you can access here.

By the way, pavers are usually sold in pallets, which is another reason why you should analyze the best deals that a trusted supplier can offer.

Keep in mind that this article covered mostly standard sizes and shapes – but there are also custom pavers to consider, such as hexagons, circular pavers, square pavers and much more. Per usual, these have trickier measurements that need meticulous eyes and expertise to be installed.
