Cleaning Belgard pavers

For over 25 years, Belgard has been providing the US with only the highest quality materials for landscape. From complete outdoor kitchens and fireplaces to the old reliable pavers. We are going to discuss what are the recommendations on how to clean Belgard pavers and what makes them the best option in the market.

The catalog of products Belgard has to offer is unmatched by its rivals. And what is even more impressive is their consistency in quality, even when working with a big array of products. This high level of quality is explained once you know that around 20,000 hours are spent every year in research and development of new technologies.

So what are the recommendations for cleaning Belgard pavers, arguably the best ones in the market? What cleaning techniques can you use to better maintain your investment?

Cleaning Belgard Pavers

If you acquired (or are thinking about acquiring) Belgard pavers, you’ll be happy to know that they come with a lifetime structural warranty. That means as long as you install them correctly and keep a proper maintenance schedule, Belgard guarantees they will last for yeas on end.

So what are the best ways to approach this cleaning schedule?

First, let’s talk about sealing.

Sealing is extremely important, and a step that cannot be overlooked. Sealing your pavers prevents the formation of weed and mold between the joints of your installation. It also protects your pavers from stains in the eventual spill of a substance, like oil or paint.

Ideally, you will apply a sealer at the moment of installation. The recommendation is that you reapply the sealer every three to five years.

Now, for what you should do every day. Not much mystery here, the only thing you need to do is sweep your pavers whenever they are particularly dirty. Never let leaves or any biological material accumulate on it, as they can stain the pavers even through the sealer if left unchecked for a long time.

Aside from that, you should do a deep cleaning of your pavers every spring with the help of a coarse-bristle “stable” broom and a paver cleaner of your choice.

Some Maintenance Tips

  • Always keep an eye out for weeds. Whenever you think it is necessary, apply a granular weed preventative between joints. That will avoid future problems, as weeds can be really damaging to the structure of the installation.
  • Be careful when using power washers. They are a good tool, especially in rainy seasons, when the pavers often get muddy. But too much pressure can damage the sand in the joint and under the pavers.

The right nozzle and PSI make all the difference here. Use a nozzle that provides a wide angle and adjust the PSI to, at most, 3,000. Also, the nozzle should be kept 12″ away from the hardscape surface at all times.
  • When using a cleaning solution for the first time, always test first. Get to a small, relatively hidden area and make a sample test to make you sure you’ll end up with the desired results. Important: Always follow the instructions on the label of the product.
  • Oil spills are a problem. If they happen, use a granular oil soaker immediately. Never rub oil stains, or any other stain, for that matter. Stains should be cleaned using a soak method.
  • For installations under extreme weather conditions, de-icing substances sometimes are necessary. When used properly, they are perfectly safe. However, some paver styles can present wear damage when de-icing substances are used in excess, so be careful.
